Field Experiences

Field experiences are an important part of educating the whole student at Lyndon Academy. We feel strongly about expanding the classroom and exposing children to experiences that they cannot encounter on campus. Beginning in kindergarten students visit locations that take them behind the scenes to deliver curriculum enhancing experiences that normal tourists would not always be privy to. Programs vary depending on the grade and course of study.

Students have traveled for day field trips to the Georgia Aquarium, Emory University, the Woodruff Performing Arts Center, The Southern Museum, Rock City, The Cobb Energy Center, the Gold Mines in Dahlonega, The Tellus Museum, The Michael C Carlos Museum, Booth Western Art Museum, Downtown Atlanta Walking Tour, The Fernbank Museum, The Center for Puppetry Arts, The World Congress Center, The Ron Clark Academy, The High Museum, and The Wren’s Nest. Professional artists visit the school as well to inspire children in the performing arts like ballet, jazz, opera, and comedy to mention just a few.

Students also have the opportunity to take part in overnight field trips. Overnight trips do come at an additional expense, while day trips are included in the tuition. But the experience is well worth the expense. Lower School Science Olympiad students slept in the tunnel at the Georgia Aquarium. 7th and 8th grade students spent a week in Washington DC and Colonial Williamsburg. Four very privileged students had the honor of laying a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. Middle school science students take a 3-day excursion to Tybee Island annually, and 5th graders go to Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama annually as well. All trips do not occur annually, such as Sea Camp, major U.S. destinations and international destinations. In 2016-17, upper school students have the opportunity to travel to China, and future trips are being planned for Boston, New York City, and Europe.
